| Media release: 24 August 2009 | | Twenty four young ‘champions’ and teachers from four local primary schools have been rewarded by Cardinia Shire Council Mayor, Cr Bill Pearson for being ‘positive, active and eating well’ role models at their schools.
Students and teachers from Pakenham Consolidated, Pakenham Hills, Pakenham Springs and St Patrick’s Primary Schools received certificates, badges and shared a healthy morning tea of yoghurt, fresh fruit and vegetables, with Cr Pearson and their teachers and families.
Their recognition forms part of the Go for your life, Being Active Eating Well project which encourage awareness of the links between life long healthy eating habits and the importance of being active.
Cr Pearson talked to the children about the importance of being a ‘team player’ in life.
“The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow and we want them to get the best out of life. We want them to be physically healthy with a strong sense of connection to their communities to add to their lives,” said Cr Pearson.
“I encourage all children to be involved with sporting activities, especially team sports because they are such a great way to meet mates and feel connected with their community,” he said.
“The young champions we rewarded are already showing leadership in their school communities in various ways.”
“We want them to maintain the spirit of the Go for your life program,” he added
