Media release: 13 August 2009

Happy Accidents have been crowned the 2009 Cardinia Shire Push Start Battle of the Bands winners.

More than 270 young people packed the Pakenham Hall on Friday night (7 August) to see eight bands battle it out for the title of the Cardinia Shire Push Start Battle of the Bands winner for 2009.

Local band, Happy Accidents, have won a place in the regional finals line up at Brighton Town Hall on Friday 6 November 2009.

Council’s Youth Service Officer Carrolyn Agius said that all acts demonstrated a high level of musical talent and appealed to the diverse tastes of the crowd.

She said that runner- up Angela Robinson; Cardinia Shire’s first solo artist performing at Cardinia Shire’s Battle event, captivated the audience with her beautiful voice and that third place winner, California Rise were also crowd pleasers.

“It was fantastic to see the performer’s supporting each other, regardless of genre,” Miss Agius she said.

A range of games were provided by Electric Productions to entertain the crowd throughout the evening.

One lucky patron, Teagan Malkoutzis, 20 won a Legacy electric guitar which was kindly donated by The Music Store Pakenham.

All other acts from the Battle competitors, including World at a Glance, Summer of Betrayal, Scott Bell and the Reasons Why, A Fate Worse Than Death and Into Delirium were of particularly high quality.

“I was amazed at the musical excellence of many of the bands competing, particularly because it was the first live gig for many of the competitors,” Miss Agius said.

Electric Productions will host their next FReeZA gig at the Bunyip Hall on Friday 25 September 2009.

Doors will open at 6.30pm.

All FReeZA event are drug, alcohol and smoke free.
