News>Playful Parenting at the Pakenham Young Mother’s Network
| Media release: 12 August 2009 | | A social support network for young mums in Cardinia Shire continues to be a success after 13 years of operation.
A team of young mums, who meet in Pakenham, are supported by Cardinia Shire Maternal Child Health and Youth Services.
The weekly sessions, which are planned by the network each term, include excursions, education, activities and guest speakers.
The young mother’s are empowered to identify the skills that they already have and build on these through the network to improve their capacity to manage the ups and downs of everyday life.
Council’s Early Parenting Liaison Officer Katherine Bray feels passionate about the importance of young mother’s coming together to share in the challenges faced as a young parent in the community.
“It is great that this network has continued to be available to young mums, who can at times feel isolated and alone in their journey as a young parent,” she said.
The network runs every Monday during the school term, from 1pm until 3pm at Services Central.
The Pakenham Young Mother’s Network is open to all young mums, pregnant and/or parenting under the age of 25 who reside in the Cardinia Shire.
