News>New township strategy adopted for Upper Beaconsfield
| Media release: 6 August 2009 | | Cardinia Shire Council has adopted a new township strategy for Upper Beaconsfield.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Bill Pearson said the strategy identifies key issues facing the township now and into the future and recommends key strategies and actions to achieve the preferred future.
“Council has adopted a revised Upper Beaconsfield Township Strategy, which will be an important tool in guiding decision making now and into the future for this village style community,” Cr Pearson said.
Council received 18 written submissions from the community on the strategy during the consultation period in late 2008.
The new strategy replaces a previous township strategy which was adopted over ten years ago, in 1998.
“Many community members may remember participating in the “Speak Out” community forum which has held at the Upper Beaconsfield Festival in February 2007.
“This was the forum where many of the ideas and future aspirations of the Upper Beaconsfield community were gathered to input into this plan,” Cr Pearson said.
Further community meetings were held in 2007 with members of the Upper Beaconsfield community and the draft strategy was advertised for public comment in late 2008.
“The Upper Beaconsfield Township Strategy is about maintaining the village lifestyle of the township while allowing for a small increase in population in the coming years,” Cr Pearson said.
The strategy contains objectives setting out priorities in the areas of residential development, economic development, community development, open space, physical infrastructure, traffic and transport, environment and urban design.
The strategy then recommends actions to achieve the objectives for the each area of the strategy.
