Big Budget Brainstorm

The Big Budget Brainstorm was a chance to tell us where you think our spending should be directed when we prepare next year’s budget. What do you think our focus and priorities should be? We will be using the most popular suggestions to help shape the budget.

Our aim is to come up with a budget that provides the services, programs and facilities that our rapidly growing shire needs, while ensuring that your needs and wants are catered for.

What happened in the Big Budget Brainstorm?

  • We asked people to respond to the following questions: 'What do you feel are the most important priorities in Cardinia Shire?' and 'What should Council's focus be in preparing its budget for next year?'
  • Ideas and views were posted on the ‘OurSay Big Budget Brainstorm’ web page, where the ideas were voted and commented on by others.
  • A number of community forums were held around the shire were people could talk through their ideas in person.
  • Over 680 residents participated in the online consultation and community forums with more than 232 ideas, 3,860 votes and 140 comments posted on the OurSay web forum.
  • A response event was held where Council and the community responded to the top 10 ideas. Over 70 residents, councillors and staff attended.
  • Visit the ‘OurSay Big Budget Brainstorm’ web page to read the top 10 ideas.

Community response event

Our Big Budget Brainstorm community consultation reached an important milestone on Wednesday 9 December with a community response forum held at the Civic Centre.

The top 10 ideas, as voted during the consultation period, were presented on, responded to by Council officers and discussed by community members.

The forum was filmed and you can watch a video of highlights from the event.
