Recycling rules

  • Empty items but don’t worry too much about rinsing
  • Squash bulky containers down. If it has a lid replace on the container
  • Don't place items for recycling in garbage or plastic bags (the exception to this rule is the plastic bag and soft plastic packaging recycling - these need to be contained in a plastic bag then placed in your recycling bin).

You can put these items in your recycling bin:

  • NEW! Plastic bag and flexible plastic packaging. Go to this page for more information.
  • Paper – including books, magazines, envelopes and paper towels
  • Cardboard – including milk and juice cartons, coffee cups, pizza boxes (remove any leftover food)
  • Cans (aluminium and steel) – including aerosols
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • All plastic bottles and containers – including bottle tops, takeaway boxes and yoghurt pots
  • Pots and pans (no glass lids please)
  • Broken hard plastic toys (no batteries)
