Emergencies
Emergencies can happen at any time and are often unexpected. Cardinia Shire, like most places, is more prone to some types of emergencies than others, for instance bushfire, flood and storm. While Council and emergency services are here to assist you in the event of an emergency, there are things you can do to ensure the safety of your family, house or business.

Frequently asked questions (emergencies)

It is important to understand that the community has a responsibility in ensuring its own safety, and while Council plays a role with emergency services such as CFA, SES and Victoria Police, it is your responsibility to take steps to protect your family and property. Remember that during a large scale emergency, such as the Ash Wednesday bushfires in 1983, CFA will not have the people to assist you individually during the immediate threat; they will be busy at the fire front. If you are prepared, you won’t need to rely on Emergency Services during the immediate threat.

The information contained on these pages is to be taken as a guide to assist you in your planning and preparation for emergencies. You will find links to further information, and we encourage you to take the time to fully understand what you can do to protect yourself, family, pets and property.
