| Council is committed to ensuring that arts and culture plays a central role in community life and is an integrated component of our vision for a sustainable and liveable community.
Council supports the development of arts and cultural opportunities within the Shire through a range of programs and services, including the annual delivery of free arts-based events for the community, professional development seminars and the provision of public art.
In March 2009, Council adopted the Shire’s first arts and culture and public art policies following wide spread community consultation. Together these policies will communicate a shared vision and philosophy for arts and cultural development in the Shire. An Arts and Cultural Reference Group including five community representatives exists to provide ongoing community input into the delivery of these policies.
In 2008, Council supported art-based events to celebrate Mental Health and NAIDOC weeks and oversaw the development of a permanent display of indigenous artefacts and cultural information at Cardinia Life in Pakenham and the development and delivery of the Creating Suburbia youth based performance project at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.
Future programming will continue to develop engaging, innovative and relevant arts and cultural events with and for the local community. | |
