Environment and heritage
Cardinia has a unique natural environment ranging from fern-filled mountain ash gullies in the northern hills, through drier woodlands in the foothills, to the saltmarsh and mangrove fringed Westernport Bay. Much of the area has been cleared for agriculture and for urban development.

Some important environmental issues:

catchment management and water quality in our streams

Cultural heritage
To many people cultural heritage may conjure up pictures of old historic homes and places, or people of historical significance from the past. However, cultural heritage is more than just old things treasured from the past, it also includes places existing in the present! In other words things do not need to be old to have heritage significance.

Further information on cultural heritage, including protection, education and awareness of both Aboriginal and European heritage, is available by clicking on the links provided below.
