Home>Garbage and Recycling>Hard and green waste kerbside collection
Council now provides two hard and green waste kerbside collections a year. One in May–June and the other in November–December. Residents have been allocated a collection week according to their own garbage day. There is no need to book as all streets will be included. The contractor is WM Waste Management Services Pty Ltd. Contact phone number: 9721 1915.

| Council has worked with WM Waste Management to make it easier for residents to plan for their hard and green waste pickup, by grouping collection areas by garbage collection days rather than by ward.
Match your garbage collection day with the relevant hard and green waste collection week (see the table below).
For example, if your weekly garbage collection day is Tuesday, your hard and green waste collection commences Monday 23 November 2009.

| Waste is to be put out in the week preceding the collection and anything put out after the collection date will not be picked up.
If your waste is not collected by the end of your collection week, please contact WM Waste Management on 9721 1915, before the end of the following week, to arrange pick up. Any hard waste put out after these dates will not be collected, and fines could be incurred.

| Important tips |
 | Collection is limited to 2 cubic metres (or two trailer loads) per household, per collection. | | Place green waste, mattresses, scrap metal and remaining hard waste in separate piles. Each pile will be collected separately and not necessarily on the same day of your collection week. | | Provide clear access to your nature strip during the collection week. Please do not park your car or visitors cars in front of your waste. | | Hard waste placed out for collection becomes the property of the Council contractor. No other people are permitted to collect this hard waste. |

| Frequently asked questions | | How often will my hard waste be collected? Council now provides a bi-annual hard and green waste collection service. These collections will occur between May and June and November and December every year.
How do I find out when my next collection is? Hard waste collection dates are printed on your recycling calendar. Following each collection, dates for the next collection will be posted on the Cardinia Shire Council website. Collection dates will also be published in Council’s Connect magazine which is delivered free to every household in the municipality 7 times a year.
Which day will they come to collect my hard waste? We can’t tell you the exact day the contractors will come to your street. Bear in mind that Cardinia is a huge Shire and they have a lot of area to cover. We can tell you which week they will be in your area. The week is determined by your garbage collection day (the day your rubbish bin is picked up).
When can I start putting my hard waste out? You can place your hard waste on the nature strip in front of your house in neat piles from one week before the advertised collection date for your area.
How much hard waste can I put out? You can put out a total of 2 cubic metres of hard and/or green waste for collection. If you put out more than this the contractors will take the allocated amount of 2 cubic metres and leave the rest for you to remove.
What materials can I put out for collection? Suitable items include: scrap metal, furniture, mattresses, small car parts, and white goods. Tree branches tied in bundles and less than 1.5 metres long, and less than 15 centimetres in diameter will also be collected.
To aid recycling, please place green waste, mattresses, scrap metal, and remaining hard waste in separate piles.
What happens if I don’t tie my green waste? Green waste that is not bundled will not be collected. Please use string to tie your bundle.
What materials can’t I put out for collection? Items which will not be collected include: batteries, asbestos sheeting, chemicals, large car parts, tyres, gas bottles, cement sheets, fencing wire, paint, building or renovation materials, soil, car springs, unwrapped or broken glass, and any other dangerous materials.
Why has only some of my hard rubbish been taken? The hard waste collection is done in four parts with four separate vehicles. A scrap metal truck will collect your scrap metal, a green waste truck will collect green waste and a general waste truck will pick up all other waste that will go to landfill. Another vehicle will come to collect your mattresses which will be taken away for recycling. These vehicles will not all arrive at the same time and it may take several days for your entire collection to be completed.
What do I do if my collection is missed? If, by the end of your collection week, there are still materials that have not been collected contact the contractor WM Waste Management Services on 9721 1915.
How long should I wait to report my collection missed? All your waste should be collected by the end of your allocated collection week. If this has not occurred, you need to call the contractor by the start of the following week to enable them to return while they are still in the area.
If I put more waste out after my collection week will the contractors come back? No, any waste put out after your allocated collection week will be investigated by our Local Laws officers as dumped rubbish.
